Soldiers in war are required to make the most consequential, intense and
complex moral decisions of their lives. Being strong head even when your
immediate leaders are fatally injured, takes lots out of any soldier. Such a
thing had happened with Captain Shashi Bhushan Ghildiyal during the attack
on Pimple II in Jammu and Kashmir on 07th July 99. When Company Commander
and second-in-command were seriously injured, Captain Ghildiyal took charge
of his company and he led them to the objective, even though he himself was
sustaining a gunshot. He and his troop captured objective by bringing
effective artillery and mortars' fire on enemy and thwarted enemy plan to
launch counter attack. Captain Shashi Shushan Ghildiyal exhibited
leadership, bravery and raw courage in the presence of the enemy. Captain
Ghildiyal displayed indomitable spirit and raw courage and were awarded by
VIR CHAKRA.
